Waist Bag MOQ Guide: How Minimum Order Quantities Really Work

A reference for brands and importers planning a custom waist bag order

MOQ — minimum order quantity — is usually the first number a buyer asks for and the one most likely to cause confusion. The short answer for a straightforward custom waist bag is from 50 pcs\. The useful answer takes another minute, because the minimum isn't one fixed figure: it moves with what you're asking for

This page explains how it works, so you can plan a realistic first order instead of guessing.

The tier structure

Custom waist bag orders generally scale through these tiers:

TierTypical use
50 pcsTrial run — test a design in the real world before committing
100 pcsSmall launch or event batch
300 pcsEstablished small brand reorder
500 pcsGrowing volume, more customization becomes viable
1,000 pcsFull production run, deeper customization available
3,000+ pcsScaled production, best terms

\ Final MOQ depends on style, fabric and logo method. Anna will confirm the exact figure in your quotation.*

The tiers aren't rigid gates — they're the practical points where the economics change. A 50-piece trial exists so you can prove a product without a large outlay; a 3,000-piece run exists because that's where per-unit efficiency is best.

Why the minimum moves with your spec

Every custom order carries fixed setup costs: cutting patterns, preparing print screens or embroidery files, dyeing a batch of fabric, prepping the line. Those costs are the same whether the run is 20 bags or 2,000. The minimum is simply the point where the run makes sense for both sides.

That's why the number changes as you add customization:

  • Stock fabric, stock color, printed logo → lowest minimum. Everything is off-the-shelf except your logo.
  • Custom colorway → higher. Dyeing a batch of fabric has its own viable minimum.
  • Woven labels, custom zipper pulls, metal badges → higher. Each is a separately produced component with its own tooling or setup.
  • Pantone-matched custom dyeing → higher again. Precise color matching means a dedicated dye run.
  • Custom packaging → adds its own minimum on the packaging side.

So the productive question isn't "what's your MOQ?" — it's "what's the MOQ for the exact bag I want?" A factory that can answer that specifically, and explain what's driving it, is one worth working with.

What drives your cost

We quote per project rather than publishing list prices, because the same bag can vary widely depending on the choices below. Knowing the levers helps you shape a spec that fits your budget:

Quantity. The single biggest lever. Setup costs spread across more units, so per-unit cost drops as you move up the tiers.

Fabric. A basic polyester differs from a water-resistant Oxford, which differs again from a Lycra stretch blend or a ripstop weave. Fabric weight (denier) and any coating also matter.

Construction complexity. Number of compartments, zippers, pockets, reinforcement points. A slim single-pocket running belt is simpler to build than a multi-pocket anti-theft crossbody.

Logo and branding method. A screen print is the lean option; embroidery, woven labels, rubber patches, metal badges and custom zipper pulls each add cost and often a higher minimum.

Color. Stock colors are efficient. Pantone-matched custom dyeing costs more and requires more volume.

Packaging. Poly bag versus branded hangtag, custom box or retail-ready packaging.

Lead time. Standard timelines are efficient; heavily compressed schedules cost more to accommodate.

For a firm number, send your spec and target quantity and we'll quote it — there's no fixed list price because there's no fixed bag.

Planning a realistic first order

If you're new to sourcing, the pattern that works is straightforward:

  1. Start with a trial at or near the entry tier, with a simple spec — stock fabric, one or two colors, a printed logo. Prove the product.
  2. Keep the customization light on run one. You can add woven labels and custom hardware on the reorder once you know the bag sells.
  3. Reorder with refinements. Most brands adjust color, fit or a detail after seeing the first batch in customers' hands.
  4. Scale what works. As you move into the hundreds and thousands, better terms and deeper customization open up.

This is how most successful bag brands actually grow — not by betting on a large first order, but by proving small and scaling the winners.

Sampling before bulk

Whatever the quantity, sample first. Standard sampling runs 7–15 days, with bulk production 15–30 days after the sample and order details are approved. Sample fees are refundable on orders of 1,000+, and negotiable between 500–1,000.

The sample is the template for everything that follows, so treat it as the real decision point — not a formality.

FAQ

What is the minimum order quantity for custom waist bags? For a straightforward design in stock fabric and colors with a printed logo, orders start from 50 pcs. Adding custom colors, woven labels, custom hardware or Pantone dyeing raises the workable minimum, so always ask for the figure tied to your specific spec.

Why does the MOQ go up when I add customization? Each custom element — dyeing a batch of fabric, producing woven labels, tooling a custom zipper pull, making custom packaging — is a separate production setup with its own cost floor. Simple printed customization works at low minimums; deeper customization needs more units to be viable.

Can I order below the minimum? Below the entry tier, the per-unit setup cost rises steeply, which usually makes the price uncompetitive for you rather than simply unavailable. If you have an unusual situation, send the details and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.

Do you publish prices? No — we quote per project. The same bag varies significantly with fabric, construction, branding method, color and quantity, so a list price would be misleading. Send your spec and target quantity for an accurate quote.

How long does production take? Sampling is typically 7–15 days. Bulk production runs 15–30 days after the sample and order details are approved. Complex customization or multiple sample rounds add time.

Is the sample fee refundable? Sample fees are refundable on orders of 1,000+ pieces, and negotiable in the 500–1,000 range. Anna will confirm the arrangement for your project.
